Micrococcus lysodeikticus Cells

These are dried cells suitable as a lysozyme substrate. Lysozyme preferentially hydrolyzes the b-1,4 glycosidic linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine which occur in the mucopeptide cell wall structure of certain microorganisms, such as Micrococcus lysodeikticus. It is also a source for the enzyme, polynucleotide phosphorylase. Micrococcus lysodeikticus (M. luteus) has been reclassified as Kocuria rhizophilia.
